Opened in September 1908 with a formal dedication on February 12, 1909 to mark the 100th anniversary of Abraham Lincolnís birth.

On June 18, 1996, the East Orange Board of Education approved the renaming of Lincoln School to the Dionne Warwick Institute of Economics and Entrepreneurship. On March 24, 1997 the formal renaming ceremony took place with Ms. Warwick and members of her family in attendance.
Ms. Warwick is a former resident of East Orange and a product of the East Orange public schools. She is an alumna of Lincoln School, Vernon L. Davey, Jr. High School and East Orange High School. She has been actively involved in Lincoln School since 1992.
During President Ronald Reaganís administration, Ms. Warwick was appointed Ambassador of Health. She is an entrepreneur in business, multimedia and real estate ventures and is recognized for her acumen as a businesswoman. She is considered a successful international entertainer and has won five Grammy Awards. She is dedicated to the educational thrust and vision of the East Orange School District. Ms. Warwick is committed to self-determination through economics and entrepreneurship education.
